Kumbaya Silken Windhounds are 2 guys and a ranch full of Silken Windhounds located in Texas

just outside of Austin. Our dogs are very much a part of our daily lives

and live as companions inside our home. Our dogs are very versatile, easy to train and low

maintenance. The fact that they love to go to dog shows, racing events, lure coursing, the beach, the desert, or

camping is simply a bonus reason to have them in our lives.

Both of us have had dogs throughout our lives.

Jay grew up on a ranch in Montana and used to show livestock at

county fairs as part of his 4H projects. He has owned Lhasa Apsos and Chows

before being introduced to Silkens. In my lifetime I have owned and showed Borzoi,

Whippets, and a number of other breeds. I’ve also had Manx cats,

goats and various types of birds. I bred my original Borzoi to a Borzoi from

Silken Windhound breed founder, Francie Stull, whom I met in 1977.

Since the breed’s beginning I had known about Silken Windhounds

but lost track of their development.

One day in 2002 while volunteering for a community service project to clean

up a city park in San Francisco I met Joyce Chin of Talisman Silken Windhounds.

From Joyce we obtained our first Silken Windhounds Loki and Dita in 2005.

We selected the name Kumbaya since it was a friendly nickname from years ago.

It is also a light hearted reminder not to take ourselves too seriously.

One of our goals is to have fun with our dogs whenever possible.

We are also very interested in quality of life and test our dogs for heart,

eyes, thyroid and MDR1 to ensure they are as healthy as they can be.
